PM Modi and CM Majhi Spotlight Odisha’s Global Business Potential

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is on the cusp of becoming the economic and cultural hub of India under the dynamic vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. At the Utkarsh OdishaMake in Odisha Business Conclave 2025, held in Bhubaneswar, PM Modi emphasized the state’s pivotal role in India’s growth, while also highlighting the immense potential of live concerts to boost the nation’s tourism and creative economy.

The Prime Minister drew attention to the overwhelming success of Coldplay’s recent concerts in Mumbai and Ahmedabad, which witnessed millions of fans converging at these events, including a historic turnout at the Narendra Modi Stadium. “India’s rich cultural heritage, large youth population, and growing appetite for live events make it an attractive destination for global artists. The Coldplay concerts are a testament to this potential,” said PM Modi.

He stressed the importance of leveraging this trend, not just to entertain but also to drive tourism, generate employment, and enhance India’s global cultural footprint. “India has huge scope for live concerts. This is an opportunity for us to develop a thriving concert economy, which will boost revenue and create jobs,” he added, urging both state and private players to focus on building infrastructure and skills required to support this growing sector.

Odisha: The New Growth Engine of Eastern India

While addressing the Conclave, PM Modi underlined Odisha’s emerging role as a leader in India’s industrial growth. He hailed the state for its natural resources, advanced infrastructure, and business-friendly policies, positioning it as a key player in the nation’s economic transformation.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi echoed the Prime Minister’s sentiments and expressed pride in hosting such a significant event. “Odisha is not only the land of opportunities but is also poised to become the driving engine of the country, especially in eastern India,” said CM Majhi.

Highlighting the progress made under PM Modi’s leadership, CM Majhi pointed to Odisha’s rapid development in infrastructure, connectivity, and industrial sectors. The state has recently signed eight MoUs with Singapore-based industries and is witnessing investments pouring into sectors like renewable energy, food processing, and textiles.

“Districts like Malkangiri, Rayagada, and Keonjhar are emerging as focal points for new industries. Odisha’s potential is limitless, and under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Modi, we are ready to claim our rightful place in India’s growth story,” said the CM.

Odisha’s Competitive Edge

Odisha’s natural wealth, including abundant minerals and fertile land, has been complemented by robust infrastructure development, including improved road networks, ports, air connectivity, and industrial hubs. The state government’s progressive policies and proactive approach toward investors have further cemented its reputation as a business-friendly destination.

“The Prime Minister’s visits to Odisha in the last seven months show his unwavering commitment to the state. His vision for Purvodaya—transforming eastern India into a major industrial and economic hub—has instilled confidence among investors,” added CM Majhi.

David John Stone, CEO-Coal Mines, Vedanta Aluminium, expressed his enthusiasm for the event: “It’s exciting! Especially for us at Vedanta, to see the support of the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister at such an event is wonderful. It’s important that everyone gets together, shares opinions, learns, and understands the government’s support. In Odisha, we operate coal mines in Jharsuguda and plan to expand our operations.”

Highlighting Odisha’s vision, the government aims to increase the proportion of planned townships from 17% to 30% by 2036 under the ambitious ‘Bikshit Odisha’ plan. This transformative initiative aligns with the state’s commitment to creating modern infrastructure and sustainable growth.

Naveen Jindal, Chairman of Jindal Steel and Power (JSP), lauded Odisha’s development and reaffirmed his company’s dedication to the state. JSP has invested over ₹1 lakh crore in Odisha, creating 45,000 direct jobs and 2 lakh indirect employment opportunities. Jindal shared plans to expand their 6 MTPA steel plant in Angul to 12 MTPA within a year, aiming for a record-breaking 25 MTPA—the world’s largest single-location steel plant—through an additional ₹70,000 crore investment.

JSP is also driving sustainability through innovative green steel production and coal gasification processes. Additionally, the development of Paradip Western Dock Port is boosting Odisha’s infrastructure, enabling global trade and economic opportunities.

Odisha’s exceptional ability to balance industrial growth with sustainability continues to attract global recognition. The support from both the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister has further strengthened investor confidence.

Dr. Domendra Singh Ganjir, Co-Founder of BusinessGarh and ārtava from Chhattisgarh, who attended Utkarsh Odisha, shared, “I am thrilled to witness the convergence of industry leaders, policymakers, and visionaries, all united in their efforts to propel Odisha’s remarkable progress. The Make in Odisha Conclave 2025 is a testament to the state’s vision and commitment to innovation, investment, and growth. I look forward to gaining valuable insights, networking with like-minded individuals, and exploring opportunities to contribute to this dynamic and transformative ecosystem. Odisha is undoubtedly setting a stellar benchmark for development, collaboration, and the future of India.”

A Cultural and Economic Renaissance

The Conclave also shined a spotlight on Odisha’s rich cultural heritage, positioning it as a magnet for tourism. From iconic temples like the Jagannath Temple in Puri to its vibrant festivals, Odisha offers a unique blend of tradition and modernity. With a young and dynamic population, the state is not only a cultural powerhouse but also a prime destination for startups and entrepreneurs.

CM Majhi called upon industry captains to explore the wealth of opportunities in Odisha. “With natural resources, impressive infrastructure, and a skilled workforce, Odisha is ready to welcome businesses that are eager to grow and innovate,” he said.

Future-Ready Odisha

Odisha’s strides in renewable energy, digital transformation, and skill development are setting benchmarks for other states. The Conclave highlighted the state’s ambitions to lead India’s transition to green energy, with investments in solar and wind power projects.

Odisha’s commitment to Make in India, coupled with PM Modi’s focus on enhancing the concert economy, reflects a broader vision to transform the state into a global hub for business, tourism, and culture.

As the curtains fall on the Utkarsh Odisha Conclave 2025, one thing is clear: Odisha is no longer just a state of opportunities; it is a state of action and transformation. With the backing of the central government and the proactive leadership of CM Majhi, Odisha is ready to redefine its place on the national and global map.

As Odisha sets its sights on becoming a driving force in eastern India, the Utkarsh Odisha Conclave underscores the state’s potential to lead the nation in industrial growth, renewable energy, and sustainable urban development.

Odisha exemplifies the spirit of innovation, collaboration, and opportunity, bringing together leaders and investors to shape a self-reliant, prosperous future for the state and the country.
